Pop Pistol: New Album “Animal Prisms”

Steven Newcastle October 29, 2012 -Dream Wave, Artist Features, Radio Shows Comments Off

Leave it to the San Antonio based trio Pop Pistol to take their music to the next level and break through the ceiling of their previous musical accomplishments. Their new album entitled “Animal Prisms” picks-up where “Disappearing Edges” leaves off with a mysterious and emotional soundtrack that makes great for playing beginning to end. Opening up the album appropriately with “Animal Ghosts“, Pop Pistol sets the stage for the tone and pace of the album and brings you directly to the expansive musical space that has come to truly define this band. As you move your way through the album it’s tracks like “Funny Games” that begin to spark your interest and settle you into the carefully crafted musical landscape. Then it’s a track like “Nothing is Moving” that finds just the right time to pick-up the pace of the album with a melody that showcases the signature Pop Pistol lyrical style. Before the album is complete the band inspires you with a tune called “Talk Talk” that exists in the ambient range (featuring an 808 drum machine), evokes emotion with a track entitled “Girl Circuits“, and then leaves you satisfied with a groove called “I Only See ColorS“. All in all “Animal Prisms” is a shining accomplishment from a band that has managed to impress me around every musical corner so far. – Steven Newcastle
