Ohnomoon, Raymond Blanco and CMJ

On September 25th, 2011, the world suffered a great loss when Raymond Blanco, bass player of ohnomoon
passed away unexpectedly. By all accounts, Raymond was one of the nicest people you
will ever meet and loved dearly by those lucky enough to have known him.

ohnomoon is an NYC based shoegaze band that paints a lush and dreamy
soundscape full of movement and empathy, started by a close group of friends with a love for
each other equaled only by their love of music.

The band will be playing their first show since Raymond’s passing as part of The
Deli Magazine CMJ Showcase “Dream Pop Stage” TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18th at the The Delancey (168 Delancey St., NYC). They take the stage at 7:30pm.
This would be a great opportunity to show your support for ohnomoon and a
chance to catch what could only be a great show. We hope to see you there.

You can check out Ohnomoon on the indie darkroom.

Change airline carry-on regulations for instruments

If you are a musician and you travel by plane, you know all about the struggle with airlines not letting you carry on your expensive guitar. I definitely don’t want my Gretsch thrown around like a rag doll by the dudes that handle the stowed luggage, and I am still haunted by the time my band-mate and I where flying and upon landing we discovered that the neck on his vintage gold top Les Paul had snapped in half. I remember upon boarding having an argument with the flight attendant as she demanded that he check his guitar. Ultimately she won and we where forced to check the guitar. For complying, we where rewarded with a broken irreplaceable vintage guitar.

Click This link to find out how we can change the airline regulations regarding carry on musical instruments.

“Dream Wave” a new show.

So,.. “Cheap and Easy” with Chris Lee is no longer on Wednesday nights. The show is still on and better than ever, but now its on Thursday nights at midnight.

So whats happening on Wednesday nights now? I’ll tell you whats happening.  Starting this Wednesday ,  a new show featuring shoegaze and dream pop called “Dream Wave”

hosted by Steven Newcastle.

this is what Steven says about the show:

“Dream Wave is my new show featuring Shoegaze, Britpop, Dreampop and Alternative Indie music.  I’ll be featuring bands that are inspiring me or making waves in the indie scene with “Extended Plays”.  You’ll get several album tracks, one after another, to get a better idea of what these bands are all about.  In addition, I’ll be running a regular rotation of music featuring a great mix of “moody” indie rock.”

Dream Wave airs on the indie darkroom 87.7fm WNYZ Wednesday nights at midnight and streaming live on the web. If its past your bedtime, you can tune in to the webstream Thursday afternoon at 1pm for the rebroadcast. To find out about the music Steve plays on his show, visit our website

Darkroom Live

Sooooo……, I think we are changing the name of my show from “Darkroom Presents” to “Darkroom Live” . The show airs on Tuesday nights at midnight, hosted by Me ( Gabe Galvin) and focuses on in studio guests and bands playing live on the air from the studio. So, it seems appropriate to call it Darkroom Live, Right?
Anyways, It will be a slow transition. I will start referring to the show as both for a while and confuse all of us till eventually the presents part will be dropped and we are left with Darkroom Live. Who knows, maybe from there I can continue to gradually dorm words and letters until the show is just known as “D” and then eventually it will just be called “.”
Love always,
-Gabe

improving our broadcast

We have been working hard to create a great broadcast. We have lots of great programming and some great DJs and we have some new DJs working on their shows that will be airing soon. You might not know this, but all of our programming is based on you the listener. Even songs that are entered into rotation are chosen by listeners by listening to and rating songs on www.indiedarkroom.com . Needles to say, we need your input to improve upon and add new programming, so please take some time to take this short program survey by clicking this link.

Thanks for listening and for helping us improve our content.
